Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone Receptor Antibodies

Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) receptors are activated by the endogenous tripeptide TRH, pyroGlu-His-Proamide, that is synthesized in the hypothalamus and released into the hypothalamic-pituitary portal circulation to act on the pituitary. TRH is produced in many other tissues, especially within the nervous system, where it appears to act as a neurotransmitter/neuromodulator. TRH and TRH analogues fail to distinguish TRH1 and TRH2 receptors. TRH1 was cloned from a mouse pituitary tumor cDNA library in 1990. The second subtype of the TRH receptor (TRH2) was identified later in rat and mouse and several other species but has not been found in humans.
