The somatostatin receptor 3 (SST3) is a promising target for multireceptor somatostatin analogs. The SST3 receptor is present in distinct cell populations in human tissues including pancreatic islands, anterior pituitary, adrenal cortex, adrenal medulla, and enteric ganglia. SST3 is highly expressed at the plasma membrane of pituitary adenomas, pheochromocytomas, and a subset of neuroendocrine tumors including non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFA).
