The melanin-concentrating hormone receptor 1 (MCH1) is the receptor for a 19 amino-acids cyclic peptide. The highest expression of MCH1 is found in the brain: frontal cortex, amygdala and nucleus accumbens, but also in the arcuate nucleus and in the ventral medial hypothalamus. MCH1 seems to play a tole in appetite regulation and obesity. Knock out mice for MCH1 are leaner, even on high fat diet. Several antagonists at MCH1 showed antidepressant and anxiolytic activities. MCH1 receptor desensitization, β-arrestin recruitment and internalization are regulated by phosphorylation of carboxyl-terminal serine338/threonine342 (pS338/pT342-MCH1) and threonine348/serine350 (pT348/pS350-MCH1). This nomenclature refers to the human MCH1 receptor but is identical in mice and rats. For more information on MCH1 receptor pharmacology please refer to the IUPHAR database.
