Calcitonin Receptor-Like Receptor Antibodies

The calcitonin receptor (CALCR) is a class B G protein-coupled receptor primarily involved in calcium and bone metabolism. Pharmacologically, it is activated by the peptide hormone calcitonin, which leads to inhibition of osteoclast activity and a consequent reduction in bone resorption. Upon ligand binding, CALCR mainly couples to Gs proteins, stimulating adenylate cyclase and increasing intracellular cyclic AMP levels, although coupling to other G proteins and downstream pathways such as phospholipase C signaling has also been described. Signal transduction through CALCR can therefore influence cellular differentiation, survival, and metabolic regulation in target tissues. The receptor is predominantly expressed in osteoclasts, kidney, and certain regions of the central nervous system, reflecting its systemic role in mineral homeostasis and neuroendocrine regulation. Expression levels are regulated by hormonal status, developmental stage, and pathological conditions affecting bone turnover. Due to these properties, CALCR represents a relevant pharmacological target in diseases such as osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, and disorders of calcium metabolism.
